Series I, Personality Files, contains files for individual people. Materials in this series include printed (paper) photographs and newspaper clippings. Photographs include mainly local people, as well as visits to the Miami Valley by famous individuals, such as presidents, politicians, or celebrities. The clippings currently contain a broader scope of individuals, as these have not been weeded.

Scope and Contents

The series Negatives, Slides, and Microfiche contains mostly negatives, aperture cards, and slides for images captured by the newspaper photographers. The negatives and slides may (or may not) correspond to print photos found in other parts of the collection. The negatives may contain additional shots or views related to one that appeared in the newspaper. The microfiche consist of copies of newspaper clippings files found elsewhere in the collection.

Scope and Content From the Collection: The collection documents the local and regional history of Dayton and the Miami Valley in Ohio through materials generated by the Dayton Journal Herald and the Dayton Daily News, with the bulk of materials dating from 1930-1980. Subseries I-A: Personality Files Large (PL)

Scope and Contents

Subseries I-A: Personality Large (PL), is the largest subseries and consists of 9” x 12” files. This subseries includes both photographs and clippings. Files for prominent individuals, both local and non-local, tend to be found in the PL files, because the files are physically larger and can accommodate both larger, as well as a greater number of, items per file. However, this largest subseries is also where most of the “ordinary” people can be found also.

Subseries I-B: Personality Files Medium (PM)

Sub-Series

Scope and Contents Subseries I-B: Personality Medium (PM) consists of 5” x 8” files (sometimes referred to as “card size” files in earlier descriptions and indices). This subseries includes both photographs (8 linear feet) and clippings (64 linear feet). Because of the smaller file size, the files in this subseries tend to contain fewer items per file than the PL files.
